My Screen is the Witness

July 28, 2026

Sun peeks through the blinds to start the day,
I stretch my arms and swipe the locks away.
A bite to eat, a playlist on the side,
Ready for the screen where hours hide.

Staring down the blank space on my desk,
Hoping for brilliance, or useful at best.
Scanning through the noise on every tab,
Reaching for a spark I cannot grab.

I turn to ChatGPT to clear my head,
Dumping all the code and thoughts unsaid.
Notifications blink through Do Not Disturb,
A constant noise I’m helpless to curb.

Burnout hits, my mind begins to fray,
So I head to the gym to train it away.
Back to the monitor, one final light,
To prep the workspace for tomorrow night.

Eating alone, the quiet starts to weigh
No one to ask how I felt today.
Just LLMs and emails sent by chance:
My only dialogue, my only romance.

So this is how adulting takes its toll
The silent routine that dulls the soul.
You see me smile, you think I’m fine and free,
Longing for a warmth I let go of, quietly.
